I'm about to add new thermal paste to a CPU. Any reason why I can't use meths to help clean old thermal paste off? This would be instead of shop bought, dedicated alcohol cleaning fluid. Cheers

Meths fine, to be honest a couple of bits of dry kitchen roll will do just as well, the idea of getting a molecularly perfect surface is a load of balls. You're smearing a load of paste on it anyway which'll be in the same state in a few months!

In reply to quadmyre: Noted - cheers.

All you're trying to do is de-grease the surface, so any clean alcohol will do; isopropyl wound wipes, or simply a tissue dipped in vodka.
