We touched on it in the new Lofoten guidebook https://www.rockfax.com/climbing-guides/books/lofoten-climbs/ but as an extra heads-up, if you are thinking of heading north this summer it is well worth considering flying to Sweden rather than Norway, then driving over.

A few figures for four week's compact car hire:

Lulea = £504
Kiruna = £750
Harstad/Narvik = £1605
Bodo = £1979

Hope this helps

But check the small print: don't assume the rental agreement allows you to take the car into another country.

Generally in Nordic Countries, you can actually pretty safely assume it to be so. Now, Russia might be off limits, but Nordic countries are generally A-OK.

Still, best to *always* read the small print... and perhaps factor the driving times to the costs.

Harstad to Svolvaer is around 2.5h
Kiruna to Svolvaer is 5.5h
Lulea to Svolvaer is 9h.

So perhaps looking into flights to Kittilä (FIN) should also be done, considering the drivetime is slightly less than from Lulea...

Or use rentawreck. For example in Tromso - Just under 400 quid for a week.

We did this, flying to Kiruna, when I went to Lofoten also meant we could stock up for the trip at a Swedish supermarket before driving across the border.
