If I know the orientation of a given mountain face, it's location, and the date I will climb it, is there any clever method to work out what hours the face will be in the sun? Assuming a simplified model (no mountains on the horizon, no clouds etc). I could take a guess, or see what the sun does the day before, but it would be nice to have a proper idea in advance. I'm thinking with regards faces that need to be climbed in the shade (/night) to reduce the objective dangers. Otherwise if someone wants to build an app to serve this purpose then they have at least one customer!

There are apps (primarily designed for photographers) that give the sun's position relative to a selected point, however I'm not sure if this takes in to account the topographical nature of the location.. maybe worth looking at!
