Dawes, [?] can\'t recall his name, Andy leaning on Stevie plus Mark Leach at Pete\'s Eats, eighties., 3 kbAndy Pollitt dusts off the photo albums and reminisces with another of Britain's top climbers in the '80s - Stevie Haston. Despite not being the best of friends in their youth, the pair seem to have mellowed with age and made up...

Well, well, well; a bloody marvellous read. With so much happy memorabilia being trawled though in these UKC interviews AP are you perhaps thinking about stepping onto rock again to see if your toes still get tickled by it?

Andy mate, that was a brilliant interview, and SH came across really well.

one question, the tights you wear in the pics are the tights you wore to The Byron on wet winter Sunday nights...did you own any sensible trousers, because I never saw them?

all the best Paul

What a great interview! This has to be one of the best climbing quotes I've read:

"Age is a construct; a set of chains and chains are for clipping not restricting you."

Brilliant interview with one of the greatest climbers in history. The amount of hard stuff he's done, in different disciplines, is mind-boggling.

> ...most people simply like me, and I am nice to people who are nice to me.

Totally agree.

Obviously Stevie has a 'bad boy' image. And yet he can be the most humble, the most soul-searching guy imaginable, with that wry, self-mocking grin. Long may he continue to fight the good fight.

Those 80's were wild times indeed in Wales , especially with all the buzz around slate and that. Great interview Andy. Keep 'em going!

Well done both and to UKC for providing time and space for this article, made me smile; the characters, the bravery, the sheer youth of it all in the 80's - mindblowingly competetive, adventurous and exciting times. Then the sheer joy and inspiration of seeing Stevie continueing to climb so well, marevellous stuff.

Bit special that

Reminded me of Llanberis back in the 1980's and of this article

Best line: "it's nice to be able to out-climb Jerry, Dawes et al as they are fat and over the hill." haha, Stevie always has the last laugh, love the guy
