Go on then.

Songs:

'Christmas was better in the 80s' by The Futureheads

or 'The Season's upon us' by Dropkick Murphy's (even better with the video)

'Purple Snowflakes' by Marvin Gaye for something a bit more relaxing.

For covers, Springsteen's 1975 live version of 'Santa Claus is coming to town'

For Albums I tend to go novelty. William Shatner's 'Shatner Claus' is always worth a laugh. You can tell when they opened the fizzy pop. Twisted Sister's A Twisted Christmas blasts through some classics.

Much as I personally prefer Jetho Tull's Christmas records or Ella Fitzgerald's 'Christmas Songs', I suspect the all time favourite might be Phil Spector's 'A Christmas Gift for You' with classics from the Ronettes such as Sleigh Ride & Frosty the Snowman.

Captain Beefheart: There Ain't no Santa Claus on the Evening Stage - it's even got sleigh bells at the start and Ho Ho Hoes at the end. Happy Xmas kiddies, I hope you've been good...

Over the last few years I've taken a liking to Carol of the Bells for its versatility.

Is this one of those dubious politically correct songs these days?

Bert Jansch did a nice Xmas record I think, otherwise maybe the Die Hard soundtrack.

'Christmas' by Low - lovely downbeat (mostly) counter to all the popular happy jingling.

Eek-a-Mouse's "Christmas A Come"  youtube.com/watch?v=MsBBhSSSjqA&

provides some festive reggae dub - always better than Mariah Carey on loop....

The penny has only just dropped that the Swiss Choir is in fact not an alpine ensemble, so much as a bad pun. Still love the song

Top tunes are a toss-up between the childhood favourite Shakin' Stevens "Merry Christmas Everyone" (I still have the 7" single I got for Christmas back in the '80s) and the more recent "Under the Tree" by Kelly Clarkson.

I always break out Blackmore's Night' album "Winter Carols" at this time of year for a bit of medieval Christmas joy.

Dear Santa by Jay Brannan and

The First Snowflake by The Boy Most Likely To

Also Carol of the Bells by Kings Return, which is incredibly good

There's some great stuff on that. But the highlight has to be Phil's spoken message at the end. That's something else!

Mike Oldfield's In Dulci Jubilo

Terrorvision's Our Christmas Song

Kelly Clarkson's Underneath The Tree

Gwen Stefani's You Make It Feel Like Christmas

The "Phil Spector" Christmas album (A Christmas Gift For You...) but particularly Darlene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

A Charlie Christmas by Vince Guaraldi. Not just a brilliant Xmas album, but a brilliant album too.

May be slightly biased as that was my Xmas present this year, an original 1965 pressing. I love it dearly.
