Hi all,

The sole has come off on my nepals and I'm too broke to get them resoled or replaced.. so I'm gonna glue them. Any tips on which glue? Thinking storm sure or shoe glue ?

I've used Shoe Goo before with both poor results and great success. Prep was the difference; get some rubbing alcohol and clean the 2 surfaces you're gluing together thoroughly. Having some kind of clamp also greatly helps, as you'll want to press the shoe and sole together firmly whilst it cures. And leave it a few days before messing with it. 

Another vote for Shoe Goo and the combo of good clamping and plenty of time!

Take them to a professional cobbler to reglue(?) Won't be anywhere near the cost of a resole. 

I went today and they said they would glue but they werent very confident in the results at all so I reckon I could do the same job

I've used shoo goo lots, its cheap and ok for keeping old trainers going. 

For this, i'd use Aquasure.

It's better, stronger and lasts longer. (Stormsure may be similar - I've not tried it.) 

I suspect it won't last that well but worth ago. From the pic I can see the thin green layers is delaminating so you'll need to get whatever glue you use on both sides of that. I would have thought one of those foul smelling epoxies that you mix just before use would be the type of glue I'd use.

Shoe Goo is good but there are two types now and you need to get the right one for the materials involved. Clamping is essential as mentioned but not always easy to do successfully. 

I used Mc Nett Aquasure Shoe repair on my nepals. However mine were only seperating in 3/4 small places likley caused by wellying my boot into a crack. I worked it in with a pin then used cord and tape to wrap the sole. 

If it has instantly failed i suspect its PU degredation of the mid sole, the repair is unlikley to be effective because the glue will stick the upper back to the mid sole and the degrading mid sole will just disintergrate bellow the glue surface.

Worth a try none the less, but perhaps have a backup plan if you are relying on them. 

Hi, I had sole come off one of my cycling shoes last month, I took it to timpsons in Sainsburys.  They charged £10 to reglue it overnight.  Talking to the assistant when I collected, he said they use a much stronger type of industrial glue than you can buy in shops.  So maybe worth considering that option.

I'd be cautious doing a DIY job. I probably consider what it would mean if the sole completely popped off. Some years back I had a pair of Boreal B3's have a full sole pop off at a split point just like yours. We had to back off a route, lash tat around the sole and boot which just lasted long enough to the car.

Totally get where you're at with this but would you climb with them after the repair in an isolated spot or on something comitting?

Update for you folks, used shoe goo original and clamped with g clamps and blocks of wood for 72 hours. Worked a charm, no problems in 3 weeks of use in cham.

The black Sikaflex ........this is used for sea kayak hatches and I have used it for boot soles which had almost become totally detached.  This was four years ago and the boots are still going strong.  Get some G clamps.  Maybe borrow some from a Men's Shed if you don't have them.

I had Shoego a lot too, but it is not up to the task of glueing soles on hill boots.

Do you know which number? There seems to be a few options…

I fixed the ladies boots with this recommended contact glue . I think its the cobblers go to as well .

I've used sikaflex EBT+ in the past. Seems to be OK, and about to do the next pair this weekend. It comes it various colours or transparent. My head seems to believe white is stronger than transparent, but I have no proof of that!

Probably, I've not had goo d results with transparent.

I can't recall but I got it from Tool Station , or if not Screwfix.
