Looks like there is hardly any snow cover! Coming to Glencoe mid Feb. Sod all there if photos from avalanche forecast anything to go by.

Anyone who’s been out around Glencoe/ Fort William this winter attest to the conditions so far?

cheers

In reply to Bobstanton:

There were some good early season conditions but its been very warm over the last week. There was a warm weather record set today in the North-West:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-68119951

A new UK record high temperature has been set in the Scottish Highlands, according to provisional figures from the Met Office.

It recorded a peak of 19.6C (67.3F) at Kinlochewe on Sunday, making it hotter than Rome and the Cote d'Azur.

If confirmed it would be the highest January temperature in the UK, breaking a record set in 2003 by more than a full degree celsius.

It would also be the highest winter temperature ever recorded in Scotland.

Peaks and troughs.

Glencoe was good enough just over a week ago when I was last there.

I read the warm stormy weather means increased moisture in the atmosphere, leading to more snowfall in the forecasted cold spell that may or may not happen in the coming few weeks.

🤞

You can't predict what it will be like weeks from now. It could be blootered or bare. Snow cover can vary massively from week to week. Not much help for you but Scottish conditions are ephemeral.

Mid Feb! You could have cover down to the valley then stripped to the summits several times over by then.

It could come back quite quick. It might be stripped almost bare now but last weekend we were driving ice screws into Peak District ice and hacking up ice pitches just north of Tyndrum the week before. The season is far from over.

quite a good winter  up to mid January. Last 10 days have been very windy but not too mild until last couple of days. Big snow loss but colder again from tomorrow.

In reply to The Watch of Barrisdale:

Long range forecasts (Met office  and Netweather are the 2  I look at) are suggesting a colder than average February from the middle of this week onwards. Driest conditions in the west and northwest of Scotland. Not sure how much new snow there will be to recover the considerable loss over the past fortnight.
