Anyone got any feedback on using these for up to grade V1 I will never get any further. Also need to be as ok for general use as fly's
In reply to Nick Gough: Should read 1V or 4 in propper money!

In reply to Nick Gough:

are these the old piranha's? my old pair are my favourite for ice and general. bit heavy and not up to the standards of newer models but a great all rounder imo.

In reply to Nick Gough:

I've used my simond piranhas for "general use" up to grade VI for years. You need to remember it's not what you've got, it's how use use it.
In reply to JonC: I would imagine an older version, but not sure

In reply to Nick Gough:

they were the favourite of guides for many years, which probably says enough.
In reply to richparry:
Ive got fly's and don't realy know how to use them yet, but I will, I have a few years of serious winter walking, lots of riges od gully's 1's and 2's but climbed Kinder downfall ( all routes on downfall ) seconding I may add three times over last 2 weeks and loved it!
In reply to JonC: Sorry for my ignorance (and spelling) for what Ice or mixed general mountaineering?

In reply to Nick Gough:

They're fine. I've used a pair on a 300m WI4. A bit old-school heavy but not as heavy as DMM Predators.

In reply to Nick Gough: always been happy with mine and as much as they are heavyish it means they go in easier than a lot of the whacking you have to do with lighter picks, they're bomber and the head bolt system is great IMO. you'll need to change the leashes though as the simond ones are rubbish. they were the tool of choice for many years alongside quarks.
ye can't get replacement picks though. someone else may know of a source.

In reply to Nick Gough:

Mine are brilliant - have to agree leashes are a bit poor velcro and ice dont mix well.

as for climbing did all my h'arder climbing with them ...

Im sure more modern tool will be better - but for mixed they were the dogs !!!
