Next Friday, the 23rd October, it will be one year since dedicated bouldering centre Climb Newcastle opened its doors. The centre, the vision and hard work of local climbers Andy Earl, Chris Graham and Darren Stevenson, is hosting a competition and party for all of their customers to celebrate!

Climb Newcastle has grown from strength to strength over the last year, riding on the wave of popularity surrounding bouldering and the strong traditions of this string of climbing in the area. With 30,000 user visits in 12 months the centre has been able to re-invest and expand this summer, with a new cave area extending the climbing in their main arena by 20%, and further developments planned for 2010.

Last year's competitions at the centre were some of the best attended in the UK with over 200 competitors enjoying the events at no extra cost and free entry into the now famous Climb Newcastle raffle. This year's competition format remains the same with an emphasis on fun and over £1000 (yes three zeros) of prizes to be literally given away on the night! Marketing Director Chris Graham, who you can take on in the 'Byker Groove' challenge this Friday (keep your eyes peeled on Youtube!), added, "Our generosity at these events usually results in us losing money big time on the day, but that isn't what it's about. It is a chance for us to say thanks to our loyal customers that have heped Climb Newcastle to grow and grow over the last year."

The competition kicks off this Friday at 1pm and you can head down any time before 9pm to try 35 competition problems ranging from font 3 to font 8a. All competitors will be entered into the raffle taking place at the after-party at HYEM bar from 9pm. A free buffet and birthday cake also await those who want to come down and join in the fun!
