Phil_Brock 20 Apr Lead dnf Another long day. Started later than we should have. Longer but easier approach than for pagoda ridge and finding the start of the climb was a bit easier although exact place you're meant to begin slightly unclear and guidebook description for first pitch has a number of interpretations! Fortunately S Crack is very obvious and keeps you on track. Led S crack without issue but then Aleksandra struggled with the Y crack sans jamming. Just about managed to second it clean - jamming is important but tough with a rucksack on. Next pitch to base of layback crack easy but again didn't quite seem to tally with guidebook description. Belayed at in situ tat shortly before the start of the layback crack then made decision to retreat - one 60m abseil to the gully at the base of west flank route, pausing to free a stuck rope on the way down. Good route - will be back again to finish and will start earlier and possibly find a different set of pitch descriptions!

John Kelly 6 Oct, 2018 AltLd Lovely sunny day, just warm enough. Fell off seconding crux having been forced to porter for my younger colleague - why he insists on 3 courses for lunch is a mystery - sharp sleet shower after crux left the layback crack amusingly damp for my associate - quick tussle with chimney, a stuck rope, another brief shower and lunch below final pinnacle. Couple quick pitches after dinner to the top, walk over to summit of Cir Mhor. Fairly savage and prolonged sleet shower on descent. About 9 hrs from campsite, we took bikes but i reckon you only get about 1/4 way to the route, that said the ride out was a pleasant end to the day.

Chris Sansum 8 Jun, 2018 AltLd O/S A great route with some quite tricky bits for a VS. I managed to get our one mid-sized cam (belonging to my partner!) over-cammed and stuck at the top of the Y cracks - a sloppy placement on my part. Traverse on the layback pitch was intimidating on lead as we didn’t have any mid-sized gear apart from the lost cam. I managed to wangle in a few poor nuts, but they were too small for the placements, and stepping down onto the steep slab was intimidating with only marginal gear placed (I wasn't totally sure whether you were supposed to continue traversing rightwards or go up at this point). Need to discuss with partner what gear we’re each bringing in more detail next time! Worth bringing some mid sized gear eg the red & yellow camalot (neither of which we had!). Y cracks were quite tricky - 5a is fair though. There were actually some nice moves on P1-4, eg awkward move from undercut to layback, but it would have been useful to have a bit of a description, and the way we went some of them felt like they warranted a tech grade. Overall a great experience, and highly recommended. Really good quality granite with some memorable pitches and great views.

Chad123 6 Jun, 2018 Lead rpt Almost 20 years since I last climbed it so pretty much a retro-flash! Plenty of fun granite climbing all the way, did in six very long 60m pitches to the grass terrace, two good warm up pitches up slabs and bulges and then a cool airy slab and overhang variant (felt E1 5a?) below and right of S crack which has lovely crack moves. y crack was as short and sharp as I remembered and the best pitch by far is the magical Lovatts Layback especially moving right across face. Triple chimneys a worthy finish and we opted for a play on Rosetta Stone and summit rather than doing top pinnacle as getting late...great day out combined with A Chir ridge approach...

beds74 9 Aug, 2017 AltLd Great day, climbed as a 3. Climbed two at once on easy lead through sections. I led S crack Col Y-which was thuggier...but S wasn't a push over. Lovely positions-4 hours from bottom slabs (which i'm told usually gets by passed but we wanted to do them) to summit. Copping out and going up easy grassy rake at 3/4 is not the full route in my opinion, head right onto slabs and up chimney.

joe.91 19 Sep, 2015 AltLd O/S Well a very exciting trip! After finding out we had to book the car onto the ferry 30 minutes before we left, we made the decision to go on as foot passengers. Luckily the landlord of the Brodick Bar (recommended for food and beer!) gave us a lift to Glen Rosa! Started to hike in and got to the split in the river before we bedded down for the night. Hiked further up before starting and did it rather quickly in about 2.5 hrs. Fantastic climb!
Well a very exciting trip!

Alternate leads, lead the S crack. And seconded the inverted Y crack with a heavy Rucksack. Thought it should be 4c and not 5a as it is in the new guide. Some people thnk the Y crack is nearly 5B! I suppose if you don't know how to jam it could be difficult, maybe 5a but not 5b. I've lead harder VS 4c climbs (Samarkand).

Pete Nugent 2 May, 2009 AltLd O/S Murray led the initial pitches. Simon led the "S" crack and I led the "Y" crack & the layback pitch. The latter was the best section in my view. We ran into a lot of traffic where the route joins Sou'wester Slabs and avoided the last pitches by moving right under a big roof and then climbing easy rock on the right of the ridge. An excellent day out!

Cat on a Hot Thin Roof ?May, 1991 Lead dog Not my best climb, but excellent route all the same. Flashed the 'S' crack, but peeled off the 'Y' crack after 5 attempts. Landed on one of my ropes luckily, as Davina was busy enjoying the view down Glen Rosa; no idea I'd come off... The traverse out on to the wall after the 'uncomfortable corner' is certainly interesting...
