Did all 17 3 star routes at shepherds in a day. Good challenge (based off the star ratings in the new borrowdale guide not the UKC ones)

Fantastic route in a stunning position. I don't usually remember that much about routes I second, but I found this one very engaging. Rather bold at the top where there is a hard & sustained sequence. There is a distinctive crux section lower down making blind moves out to the arete, although less difficult than expected once committed to. I went the direct 6a route at the top and flailed around somewhat before pulling myself together and pulling hard on the blind in-cuts around the arete. Was past my best before starting out (trying not to fall asleep in the sun on belay) so there was definitely some sweating, screaming and swearing involved.

Wild, certainly. Best route of the trip by a fair way and one of the best E2's I've been on, gear was a little thin in places but generally adequate, the holds are amazing and the position is incredible, clip the peg then race against the pump to the top.

Excellent climb. Boldest bit is tricky cracky/groove moves to get up to tree. Top is fine as positive holds pull you upwards. Friend 1ish between flakes rather than reaching leftwards a long way to clip the peg....

Desperate at top until I climbed the actual arete rather than follow the small flakes left then come back right. Angle of dangle is high

Wild indeed.

tom_drysdale 01/May/17 Lead dnf

Our guidebook didn't mention that this is pretty bold, but I soon found out, bloody hell! Presumably I missed all the good bits of gear, and didn't fancy falling on any of the bits I did place! Got really pumped clipping the peg but got to a few moves from the top before slipping and taking a 10m whip... definitely a memorable end to the day, but perhaps a bit of a sandbag for me! Can understand why it gets all the stars, but I think I'll go searching for other stars elsewhere!

Not as bold as the guide says, after the 1st bit that is.... Good gear by the block and then okay cams behind the flakes. Super positive holds.

Good route. Kev found bottom bit hard and bold, he enjoyed the arete, steep with gear. I found the top exhausting and somehow not technical enough!

Absolutely brilliant route, well worth seeking out, can't believe this didn't make the select guide. Best started down and left of the arete - some technical slabby moves lead you up right to the tree and then a wild, juggy arete with enough gear but bold in places. A little creaky but pretty solid. Classic! E2 5b *** is spot on...
