Graeme Hammond 31/May Lead G/U

First attempt I gave up trying to strip back the thick blanket of ivy to do the moves left out of the groove and onto the arête with lots of swearing and thinking I was going to fall a mile. Chris took over and finished clearing just enough ivy to finished the climb though not without a rest. However he was doing bloody well to be climbing at all given how ill he felt and had to lower off the top in a hurry. I then led (on mine + Chris's gear). The move out of the groove turned out to be not very hard without the ivy but is fairly bold to reach the rest ledge and gear before attacking the crux top crack. I cleared some more ivy on abseil and uncovered some move gear for the bold section but it could do with a proper strip back as the climbing is superb and is almost of 3* standard so deserves traffic.

Didn't think this was as bad as everyone made out. Bit interesting getting to the bottom of the headwall, but the crack's not hard, there are places you can stop briefly in it if you want to, and you can place a cam quite high from below. Definitely 3*

One to return for. Fell off the top crack- was fairly tired and climbing poorly.

Hardest E2 I've done yet. Sustained throughout, fiddly gear in places and very bouldery getting up the first section and out onto the arete. Lots of cams are needed to protect the route well. The best strategy is to build a bomb-shelter of gear at the bottom section of the crack before you commit to the layback and then crank to the top. Stopping to try and place gear could have dire consequences if you haven't taken care lower down. ****

The bottom was a lot harder than expected, then build a bomb shelter at the base of the top crack and go. Good route.

Such a great climb, a good mixture of balanced, bold and easy, hard and safe sections. As per the guide description; it's great to just place some solid gear at the bottom of the crux and then just run it out to the end.
