Mecca 8b+ for 15 year-old Jim Pope

15 year-old Jim Pope has climbed Mecca - The Mid-life Crisis (8b+) 8b+ at Raven Tor (Miller's Dale), adding to a growing list of hard UK sport climbs following his ascent of Revelations (8b) 8b a few weeks ago.

Having spent just three days on the route - two days last weekend and one day this week, Jim's quick ascent came from being inspired to try Mecca after watching people try it when he was younger: "there was always somebody on it and when I did Revelations a few weekends ago I needed a new project so decided to try it!"

"When I did it I felt really surprised because on all my attempts before I was falling going into the groove, and I thought once I stuck the move I'd fall at the top section which I found harder!"

Jim now has his sights set on Mecca Extension (8c) 8c: "Now I might start trying the extension to Mecca because I haven't been that high up on the crag yet so it would be nice to go into some new territory."

He added: "I'd also like to do a bit more trad climbing on the grit now it's getting colder!"
