Adam Ondra renames Project Hard to 'Silence' 9c

Adam Ondra has announced today on Instagram that the name of his new 9c - given the very apt working title of 'Project Hard' (UKC news report) - at the Flatanger cave in Norway will now be Silence.

Adam described his reasoning as follows:

'When I was climbing through the crux of this route, I felt like I was in my own world, with my mind in complete silence, my body relaxed and flowing up the moves in complete harmony despite the extreme difficulty of the moves. When I reached the anchor, I wanted to scream, but I could not. Too overwhelmed to break the silence.'

Adam also appears to have settled on 9c, after initially expressing reluctance to propose the unprecedented grade.

Typically not reserved in his emotional reaction upon completing or failing on a climb, this makes a change for Ondra, whose screams have even made it into a Taylor Swift song. See the Youtube video below for a humourous take on his high-pitched shrieks...

I like the name. Resonates also with the current situation in Myanmar in respect to Aung San Suu Kyi's 'silence' in the face of apparent ethnic cleansing.
