New Font 8C+ for Ondra

© Adam Ondra

Adam Ondra has climbed a new problem at Sloup in the Czech Republic and graded it Font 8C+, the hardest in the country. Ondra named the problem Brutal Rider, as it links an 8A+/8B into Ghost Rider, an existing 8C.

Brutal Rider is at a crag that Ondra used to visit regularly in his childhood, although this particular problem was rarely dry. The temperature differences in the cave mean that the rock regularly condenses and when it's not condensed, there is often a river underneath. Not to be deterred, Ondra simply recruited his fisherman friend to build a landing from pallets.

Ondra wrote that he has neglected hard bouldering over the past 10 years, simply using it for training or when he had competitions. The current situation has meant that he's focused on projects much closer to home.

'They might not be the best lines ever, they usually lack top outs, but they are hard, they are there and they simply need to be sent, especially as the moves are usually intricate and interesting!

'The boulder problem is long, it has 25 hard moves and could also be graded as hard 9b sport route. Last time, when I did an 8C+, was 10 years ago.'
