Rob Matheson 50 Years On - Tarkus (E2 5c)Fri Night Vid

© Rob Matheson Collection

Following on from the popular Friday Night Video where we followed 'angry pensioner' Rob Matheson on an ascent of Catacomb (E1 5b), we join him again at Dow Crag where he looks to make another ascent of Tarkus (E2 5c), 50 years after he made the first ascent.

You can see more of Rob and Craig at this year's Kendal Mountain Festival where our very own Rob Greenwood will be compering a session with the Lakeland legends.

A pioneer of the Lakeland climbing scene, local legend Rob is still climbing hard in his 70s and has recently been making repeat ascents of iconic climbs he created 50 years ago; imposing and inspiring lines such as Paladin (E3 6a), Cruel Sister (E3 5c) and Holocaust (E4 6a), often on camera under his 'Angry Pensioner' alias and accompanied by his son Craig. Continuing the family tradition, Craig is one of the UK's foremost climbers with many hard Lakeland first ascents under his belt including Stopper Knot (E8 6c), Thy Will be Done (E8 6c) and Hard Cheese (E10 7a). Rob and Craig talk about their love of climbing, family influences, training tips and much more.

Yet another great little film.

Not sure why they chose the name ''angry pensioner productions " he seems like a top bloke, I wonder what he gets angry about.

So solid a climber .Incredible strong hands and excellent footwork. Totally agree with his comments on rock shoes.

A pleasure to watch these. Catacomb and Tarkus were my first Dow routes in about 1987.

Best climbing videos on YouTube by a mile.

I don't think I got either of those two runners in on the start, just a low one in the slot where you start, so I found the route quite scary. Must look harder next time!
