Is this not Medusa Wall on Esk Buttress? Kern Knotts follows an obvious crackline!

It's a great photo but really it should be in the historical gallery.

Great picture. Love the casual over-the-shoulder belaying and the scary waist tie

Hi Sutty . I think you are half right . Des is on the belay of Buttonhook top of P1. The traverse section is on the 1928 route Kern Knotts Chain graded 5a.. Cheers

I knew it wasn't Kern Knots, but I thought Buttonhook was further round the crag to the R. Still it's about 20 years since I climbed here!

When men were men...Saw Des in Cairngorm last winter still skiing and looking fab !! Do you have any photos of Mr. Downer ?

USBRIT - 17/Jan/11
Sorry about the confusion, but I am sure this photo was captioned as Medusa Wall in a mag or book a few years back. Did you originally post this photo as Kern Knott Crack? A pity the image has faded with time. At least the present generation won't have that problem with digital.
Sean Kelly - 17/Jan/11
Sean It is definatly Kern Knotts .I do know as its me in the photo! I think I remember the photo you refer to on Medusa Wall it was similar..,but nothing to do with me.. cheers

A great style of climbing. I'm keeping my modern gear, but just not going to use as much of it.

Bloody fascinating gallery you have there. A definite penchant for pinnacles too.
