This and the other shot of the bad weather on El Cap are great. There aren't photos that show what happens on the walls in the valley when the weather turns..... It can get very nasty, very quick. I walked from the meadow to the base of the Nose one fine day, to start the Triple Direct, and by the time we arrived an unseen and (unpredicted) storm came round the corner. In 5 minutes the start of the Salathe was an icey waterfall and parties were bailing from the bottom half of the Nose. The last to get down were borderline hypothermic. Not nice.

Ah! There were a number who bailed out in the rain. What route were you on? A mate of mine was on Lurking Fear, but carried on even though they were soaking.

@Sean: Stefan and I were in the stovelegs, on the Nose. We thought about going on for a while but the route quickly became a waterfall and hypothermia was just around the corner.

I'd just arrived at camp 6. Too high to bail - too low to blast (remembering the two Japanese)Spent an appaling night on the ledge then topped out next day in bright sunshine.
