Taken about 1966 whilst waiting to move up onto the pitch. I cant recall the climb but seem to think it was known as the Chamonix face of the Peigne and was popular but not over hard. Any suggestions welcome

Could be top of pitch 1 of Lépidoptères which I did 19 years ago http://www.ukclimbing.com/logbook/c.php?i=52772#photos

I think it may be (what was then called by Brits) the Chamonix face of the Peigne.

Looks like the 'Lepiney Cracks' at the top of the WNW Face. I have a similar picture from 1988 (will post). Yours is much more impressive climbing in 'boots'

To bhood. Climbed in boots on all alpine routes until perhaps 1980 as did many. There were some very "neat" boots around at the time.

Great picture. I really like the uncomplicated no fuss atmosphere it generates from almost 50 years ago.

I think it is the SE of the Peigne, a Rebugffat route, but I haven't my guide books at hand.

It is almost certainly the sloping crack (V) which was the fourth pitch from the top of the Chamonix Face of the Peigne. Pages 105/106 of the 1957 ACG Guide - Selected Climbs in the Range of Mont Blanc.
