Very much a comment from the armchair, but would it not be possible to throw a long sling and lasso the flake?

The flake is very loose. My thought was that the one thing worse than falling off at that point would be to fall off and then have half a ton of rock land on you as well.

I think the rock in the foreground makes this, realising that the camera is just balanced and you're alone up there really intensifies it.
