Introduction to the role
We are looking for a highly organised, natural leader who is psyched for climbing!

The role of the Centre Manager (CM) is varied and exciting. Strategically they are responsible for the leadership of the staff team and implementing our vision and mission. Operationally they oversee health and safety and are positioned to drive projects to build on our climbing community!

We are proud to have supported the existing CM to transition into a specialist HR role elsewhere. So we are looking for a new leader to continue this amazing work in this very special climbing wall!


Key Terms

Starting salary: £30,000 per annum
Working hours: 40 per week on a flexi-time basis. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Holiday allowance: 30 days (including bank holidays)

Day to day operations
Being a calm, positive and approachable manager and leader, the CM will support staff with the day to day running of the centre. Responsible for the quality of all products, services and facilities ensuring all customers have a positive experience.

Legal & Safety
The CM ensures all staff understand and work to all Risk Assessments, Procedures and Policies. Recording and reporting incidents and accidents will help the team to spot patterns and implement improvements in our operations and documents.

Human Resources and Staff Welfare
The CM will oversee and undertake recruitment, workforce planning, payroll reporting, performance management, learning and development, improving staff retention and wellbeing. They will be responsible for implementing robust HR procedures across the centre, these should ensure staff are treated fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation. The CM will be responsible for staff health and safety and wellbeing – overseeing the staff welfare system they will provide a system where staff can communicate welfare concerns confidentially.

Line Manager
The CM will work closely with the Head Coach, Reception and Operations Managers, meeting regularly to set and readjust targets. The CM will also be direct line manager to all centre staff but assisted by the above departmental managers in their respective areas.

Leadership
Displaying excellent leadership and professionalism, the CM creates a friendly and supportive place to work where everyone understands and works towards common goals. The CM has a hands-on understanding of instruction, operations and reception. They will provide support and coaching to the wider team to help them develop their own skills, management and leadership.

Diary Planning and Budgeting
Creating the rota and timetables for our instruction programs and operations will be an important part of this role. The CM predicts fluctuating capacity requirements to ensure productivity and healthy wage percentages.

Communication Systems
Creating communication pathways and scheduling regular meetings with the team the CM ensures staff are informed of changes and there is also ample time for their feedback. Encouraging collaboration between departments will help everyone to work together as a team effectively.

Project Management
As the link between departments the CM acts as a project manager and coordinator in various projects. We have a community focus and have created an Events Coordinator who organises community and staff events, the CM will support them and provide the resources needed to succeed.


Role Requirements

Desirable Qualities

  • Full of ideas to enhance the community
  • HR qualification (CIPD)
  • Fluent in the use of RGP
  • Experience with  scheduling software, ideally Planday

Essential Qualities

  • Highly organised
  • Natural leader
  • Climber and/or active part of the climbing community
  • Previous management experience working in a busy climbing wall environment
  • HR experience
  • Experienced with rota planning
  • Previous line management responsibilities
  • CWI / CWDI Qualification or similar
