The Climbing Academy is looking for a full time head setter. Pay: £26,746 to £28,711 per annum (dependent on experience). Hours: Full-time (160 hours per rota including breaks) 4 day working week. Deadline: Sun 26 February.

This is a full time setting post based in the Southwest. It will be a senior role within TCA and you will be expected to take the day to day lead on all aspects of routesetting. The role will be based across three walls in the Southwest located in Bristol (The Mothership and The Church) and Chippenham (The Arc) closely supporting the Routesetting and Maintenance Manager. The right candidate will assist in managing the setting team allowing for regular rotation of routes. You will also provide support in the successful running of events. You will ensure that all staff adhere to the TCA Setting Policies and that work is completed to the highest possible standard. You will continually act as an ambassador for the company setting a good example for junior setters. You will be expected to set within the centres at least three days per week, averaging out as setting one day a week per centre with the remaining time allocated to assisting the Routesetting and Maintenance Manager.

Training: We will encourage and facilitate your development as a routesetter through off the job training and development

Holiday: 28 days per year

Reports to: Routesetting and Maintenance Manager

Role Specific Responsibility

  • To ensure all setters set within the centre in accordance with TCA’s Setting Policy and procedures.
  • Lead and organise day to day setting across all centres
  • To build good relationships with all the setters across the sites by supporting, training and mentoring the team. You will assist with the hiring of new setters when required.
  • Ensure a regular rotation and sustained quality of setting within all the centres, collect setting feedback from customers and staff and communicate to the Route Setting and Maintenance Manager.
  • Monitor the condition of walls and matting. Identify problems and solutions to the Routesetting and Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensure the hold stores are kept clean and tidy. Make sure holds are washed and in good condition for setting. Monitor equipment, bolts, screws and tools to ensure they are well stocked and in good working condition.
  • Assist with the ordering of appropriate holds and volumes within budget when required.
  • To work with the Marketing Manager to produce appropriate customer information for all TCA communication platforms
  • Keep abreast of issues within the industry and communicate this to staff.
  • The postholder is expected to undertake any other reasonable duties within their capabilities and the scope of the post as specified by the Routesetting and Maintenance Manager.
