I cant remember the name of the film, but it had a bit in it where they try to get away in a boat (quite small) and the killer is on board...

I don't watch scary films as a rule so if someone does recognise the one I am trying to describe, and it's tame, I do apologise but it did have the scariest murderer in it for me!

I can't think of anyone more convincingly chilling that Mitchum in Night of the Hunter.

Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in The West should get a mention though.

Sergi Lopez does psycho quite well; he is very creepy in Harry, He's Here to Help, very different to his character in Pan's Labyrinth.

So perhaps he killed someone, but are you sure that would qualify as murder in the circumstances?

Doesn't count - he didn't kill anyone so can't be classed as a murderer.

Mine goes back to the early 70's - First psychopathic type killer i ever saw in a Movie called 'The haunted House of Horror'. He lured his mates into a mansion then butchered them with a Kukri. I was quite young at the time and we were having powercuts - every time the lights dimmed I convinced myself someone was coming to get me. Don't watch many horror movies now - they don't seem to have much in the way of subtlety.

May I comment on your spelling mistake in the title?

For scary- wasnt Jack Nicholson in the Shining pretty scary, but he didnt commit a gory killing, unless you count that axe in the back of the black dude. Overall a pretty scary movie.

In reply to pingod: I'm starting to feel really sorry for the chef in the Shining. Flies all the way from his winter sunshine retreat, battles his way through the snow only to get an axe in the chest and either he's forgotten completely or it's not gory enough.

Poor bastard must be spinning in his grave.

Great movie though.
