 Dave Warburton 11 Jan 2010
In reply to 5cifi: Ark-terix
 graeme jackson 11 Jan 2010
In reply to 5cifi:
arkterix - like asterix i.e. no pause
5cifi - BAD SELLER 11 Jan 2010
In reply to Dave Warburton: I can do the Arc/ark, but the second halfs abit harder

In reply to graeme jackson: Think I've got it, I wonder where that name came from ?

When I say it, I always pronounce it in full.
 DWilliamson 11 Jan 2010
In reply to 5cifi:

It's a contraction of archaeopteryx, the earliest known bird - their logo is even based on a famous fossil example.

In reply to Nick B, Another One: Very interesting. I would never pay for some of the the stuff they make though. Especially if I could get similar items for a cheaper price
 Dave Garnett 11 Jan 2010
In reply to 5cifi:

Neither would I. I would and do pay for some of the other stuff they make where I can't get similar for a lower price!
5cifi - BAD SELLER 11 Jan 2010
In reply to Dave Garnett: Some of there stuff like the packs are extremly well built and built to last so I would pay for that, but some of the prices are just silly and you'd have to be silly to pay for them
 Alan Breck 11 Jan 2010
I always thought that their stuff was expensive but was willing [almost] to pay the price as it was said to have been made in Canada. A recent check however shows that prices are still high but the stuff is made in China.......not good
In reply to 5cifi: I've got a few bits of Arcteryx gear (bought in sales!) and I have to say that without exception, it is all absolutely brilliant gear - far outperformed my expectations.

Can't recommend it enough, along with Haglofs and Inov-8.

(oh, and despite my begging, Mick never gives me any free gear to review! I have to buy it all out of my own pocket

In reply to 5cifi:

I wonder why the bit they took out of the name is an anagram of "a hope"...

Good enough kit but way overpriced.

In reply to 5cifi:

like canada itself its all great stuff - just a little lacking in edge. a little conservative (tho the prices are outrageous).

well made (or, made properly), few gimmicks, timeless designs - but a little low on character (again, other than the 'jesus, youre doing alright to have that..' factor). not sleazy like TNF, yuppie like patagonia, steely like MHW, snooty like mammut, pedigreed like rab etc.

anyway; its ark-terix. not that hard. after the lizard-bird-thing from the late triassic or whatever.

I think the magnificent complexity of the fossil is evidence of clever design. :O)

...or smug like Paramo, condescending like Haglofs, melancoly like Marmot etc.
