Walker talkies

Have increasingly felt the need for walkie talkies on multipitch climbs or at noisy or massive crags. Anyone got some recommendations? I guess the ideal ones would be small but robust with something to clip to your harness, and USB chargable. Any thoughts?

Yeah, really cheap ones are fine. I used my daughters' £5 ones at Gogarth and they were great. We had to put them in our pockets though.

We recently switched from pmr to uhf at work and the difference is night and day, they're only £12-15 per radio (retivis) and we can communicate quite easily a couple of miles away through forest. You need a licence for them but they're quite cheap.

The pmr radios (licence free) are ok provided you have perfect line of sight and no interference. I always used to just use tugs and then make sure you both had your phone in case there was any doubt.

Probably same one up the length of pinnacle ridge.

pmr446 do use UHF 70 centimetre wavelengths - perhaps you mean more powerful UHF radios?

pmr446 are licence free but more powerful sets need an OFCOM licence

I've used the Motorola T80 in winter a few times, pretty robust. I tend to put it in the chest pocket rather than clip it to my harness though.
