Frankie Boyle - funny or not?

Does anyone else find this man a comedy genius? he is razor sharp even though i do cringe a little at some of his 'close to the bone' jokes. He is the best thing on mock the week. I have to remember not to eat or drink when i watch it as he always makes laugh and spray it over the dog, or worse still, my girlfriend!

Random quotes...........

"It's good they're holding the Olympics in the East End of London. Means the athletes will have to use extra skill to work out which gunshot is the starting pistol."

I would have loved to have a gay dad. Do you remember at school, there were always kids saying "My dad's bigger than your dad, my dad will batter your dad!" "So what? My dad will shag your dad. And your dad will enjoy it."

Nobody thought Mel Gibson could play a Scot but look at him now! Alcoholic and a racist!

Apparently they're going to bring in Super Asbos. But Asbos already sound too cool. Teenagers see them as a badge of honour. They should call them Gaybos or Bender Badges!

I saw him live a couple of months ago...not all that.

There was a warm up act beforehand, who I thought was funnier. Frankie did seem to repeat a lot of stuff he used on TV before, and didn't seem to connect with the audience.

Sean Lock on the other hand, best comedian I've seen for years, is at the top of my list with Mark Lamarr (who I saw in the mid-90's....)

I've only seen Frankie Boyle on Mock the Week, but he does seem to be one of the sharpest on there.

The other people on that show are so awful I'm not surprised you all think Frankie Boyle is sharp and I can't believe someone who is truly sharp like Bremner ever agreed to being on it but then again the quality of the comedy that Britain is producing at the moment is all pretty lame well the stuff they keep churning out on the BBC especially BB3.

The best Frankie quote was in a Scotland On Sunday column after the Glasgow Airport terrorist attack.

"I like the naivety of Al Qaeda, thinking they can bring religious war to Glasgow."

Superb.

I saw him live too and was disappointed, he's much better on MTW than on stage.

IMHO Mock the week is by far the funniest thing on TV at the moment, and Frankie Boyle is just about the best of a very good bunch

Saw Sean Lock in Leeds a while back, very good. Ross Noble is in Aberdeen again early next year, will probably go see him for the 3rd time.

I agree, I saw a couple of months ago and he was crap. He comes out with some funny lines on mock the week, but then he produces the show so has plenty of time to prepare for the content!

Oh he is just wrong!! Some of his stuff is really funny, but generally, everything is turned into a not even funny innuendo. Love Mock the Week though.
In reply to climberjamie:

he had a fantastic one about the diana memorial concert, I am paraphrasing but it was something like...why have a concert for her, its not as if she was musical or contributed to music, they really should have had something more in keeping with her mermory...a gangbang in a minefield perhaps

Sean Lock is a good writer I'd recommend 11 stories high a sitcom set in a tower block in London is very clever and Ross Noble is fantastic, Mock the Week is just the same old drivel with the same old tired unfunny "Comediens" week in week out trying to be a broad version of Have I got News for you.

It was 15 Stories High wasn't it? Yep, it was brilliant - I thought it was better on the radio than it was on the telly though, seems to be the way with a lot of BBC comedies.

Does nobody think that Mock the Week always seems incredibly scripted? Sure it's funny, but I swear 99% of the jokes are written a week beforehand and rehearsed. I know a lot of panel shows are like that, but you get the feeling with Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You and the like that at least some of it is made up on the spot.

He might write funny jokes, but I wouldn't say he was 'razor sharp', certainly not compared to, say, Paul Merton.

No it's not rehearsed, just regurgitated. I have seen some of the stuff russel howard uses in his live shows before.

Russel Howard that's the one I loathe the most then the midget, they do rehearse these shows and It's painfully obvious they do on Mock the Week Russel Howard looks like he's going to have an embolism trying to remember his lame jokes and he looks like that thing that sits on Jabba the huts shoulder except fifty time more annoying.

Absolutely love him. Going to see him at Colchester next month. When I was going through a rough stage recently, and couldn't sleep, I used to sit in front of my PC watching clips of him on You Tube. Sorted me out in no time!

Thought he was particularly surreal last night...ICE FISHING ! However,I wish he would leave poor Kerry Katona alone and go for Davina McCall instead.

In reply to sebf: I saw Ben Elton a few years ago and his 90 minute show was essentially the best stuff from his last TV series. Maybe there's too much exposure for some modern comics and they don't have the breadth of say someone like Barry Cryer or Bob Monkhouse?

However, most of the time they are still very funny.
