I'll be first!

Thanks for the tea & coffee. Boy did I need it to thaw out! The roads were quite icy in places.

Nice to meet friends old & new, & to hear great compliments about my bike. Sorry it was a flying visit. Next time.....

Nice meeting you mate if just a flying visit.

(next time I will distract you long enough to get your bike in the back of the van)

Great weekend.

Big thanks to Sutty & Marie for doing all the leg work and organising.

Round of applause for Masood's curry

And much backslapping for the cake-baker, wine providers, balloon bursters and, well, everyone really.

I enjoyed myself hugely.

Y.
Yrmenlaf 14 Dec 2008
Actually, it's Mrs Y here now...

Thanks to everyone for making me welcome - I've had a great weekend, and very much enjoyed your company.

Hope those who went looking for good places to climb found them, and that those who just wanted to enjoy a beautiful, frosty day did so as much as I did today.

And I managed to get the cloak nearly finished, too!

Liz
In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat:

Well it was fantastic to meet so many famous UKC names. I was hard put not to get out my autograph book...*cough*

Seriously, had a great time and very grateful to the Great Lord Suts and Ms Bing for organising and for everyone who was so nice to me.

P.S. And I want to know how Masood is going to explain to Mrs Masood how he managed to get tomato pips down the back of his T shirt....

It was a great weekend, thanks everyone Good to catch up with mates and meet new people and generally have lots of fun! Thanks to all who provided food, entertainment etc And another thanks to Masood for driving me to and from the meet! And thanks to SCC for not letting the others make me drink absynthe!!! Hope everyone had as much fun as I did, really good getting so many people together.

What amazed me most was that most of the cake appeared to be eaten! Thought that would have been impossible. What was also amazing was how good lemon drizzle cake curry sandwiches tasted.
Yrmenlaf 14 Dec 2008
Lemon drizzle cake? I never had any lemon drizzle cake! How is it possible that I didn't eat lemon drizzle cake?

Yeah, had a great time despite my reservations, which were totally unfounded! Really cool group of people along, and I enjoyed the saturday night chat until the early hours, somehow I didn't seem to get that pissed despite drinking plenty to (perhaps a reward for drinking sensibly on Friday).

I learnt that it's surprisingly easy to skewer one's finger with a fork (still hurts), that Fawksey navigates like a blonde (I, of course, navigate like an expert, that's why we took at least 3 wrong turnings on the way there), that whisky no longer seems to make me pull a whisky face (although that may have been because I had some brandy just before it, which *did* make me pull a whisky face!), that I still have more space for cake from a cafe in Pately Bridge on a Sunday morning despite eating plenty in the bunkhouse, and that it actually does taste nice warmed and buttered. Kudos to the guys that got on the rock at Brimham today, rather than just squeezing through various holds inside Lovers Leap Buttress (which was fun, although not as fun as posting Fawksey down the smarty tube, video to follow!)

Just sorting photos, then early to bed with a book to make up for the lack of zzzzz's last night.

Thanks to all that contributed in any way!

Ah, I see.... you have no recollection of what you and climbing pixie were doing in the very early hours of this morning...

Great weekend, despite the weather yesterday, still got out and about and even had a little play at Brimham today in that glorious sunshine.

Thanks to Sutty for being lead organiser, Y and Masood for the meals, and all the WI ladies for the cakes.

Not forgetting the brewery - John Lewis aided by Ice.

I don't think I have laughed so much and so hard for *ages*

Thanks to everyone for coming and making it go as well as can be exoected when you lose all power for 16 hours, the emergency lights showed they were up to the task by remaining on all night.

Special thanks for the linesmen and tree surgeons who worked in that horrendous weather to get the power back on, anyone who saw Wingnut soaked to the skin and maybe beyond will realise that we had it easy.

Another thanks to Andy for managing to make sausage bacon and mushrooms and eggs for breakfast on Saturday on a pocket rocket and another stove, great work from him and his helpers.

To anyone else who helped make the event the success it was by washing up cooking food, cleaning the hut, thanks as well.

BTW, in the humongous pile of food I have collected there is a lump of Anansies lemon drizzle cake, Mrs Y should have looked more closely, there was a lot left last night till the younger still growing scavenger descended on the kitchen eating like locusts.

I also seem to feel one young person may be hungry today. I found a packup with KFS, bread, salami in a plastic box. Left in the fridge, it is now here if they would like their bits back. Unfortunately I detest salami, I even tested a bit to see if my dislike had subsided over the last 50 years but no.

In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat: I probably have more people to thank for my whole weekend than most, but Im not going to! Those people I got the time to have a chat with over the weekend know who they are. I got to eat other peoples food, drink their booze and they provided entertainment all for free.

I'll make one exception, the youth of today are often much maligned. I thought James Oswald's attitude over the weekend was commendable. Held his liquor, still climbed and was good company.

I had an ace weekend, laughed like a drain, played catch with eggs and tomatoes, was plied with drink by someone on friday, which resulted in hangover from hell all day Saturday (don't try and deny it, you know who you are:op).

All the food was great, never got to eat ICE's bangers, as too ill

Cakes were great, especially liked the chocolate refridgerator thingys and the coffee and walnut, ta Bingly.

Everyone was fantasticly friendly, loveliest bunch of people you could ever wish to meet, it was a rench to leave. Hope to see some of you again soon

Thanks Sutty and Bingly.

Thanks to everyone who organised - it was a brilliant weekend. Apologies to anyone I offended!

Had an awesome time this weekend. Thanks a lot to everyone who cooked stew, curry, cakes and breakfast and to the contributors of all the cheese (particularly the huge wodge of dolcelatte). Couldn't have had a better weekend, we even had snow! And I managed to get rid of my bottle of absinthe on some poor unsuspecting souls, heh heh. Was great to meet some new people and catch up with some mates, even the ones who put snowballs down my back, and I've managed to acquire a big link of black pudding to munch through this week - yum

It was lovely to meet you all Saturday, even if it was only a brief visit and put faces and names to 'posting names'. Shame about the weather, although we still managed to do a walk of sorts, getting very wet in the process!! Thanks to Flicka for navigating in the driving rain!!

Sorry i missed out on the chance to climb at Brimham yesterday, although i was there working all day. I did manage to pop down and say hello to a few of you but the majority had already scarpered!

AND i never got to taste test any cake....how did i manage that?!?!

 sutty 15 Dec 2008
In reply to climbingpixie:

Just in case you go shopping for Dolcelatte, the round one you liked to start with was Cambozola. The Dolcelatte was a bit stronger then the Stilton.

I avoided the Absinthe, obviously still had a couple of brain cells still working at that time.

The garlic bread and pizzas seemed to go quickly for late night snacks as well, and nobody seemed to want to eat healthy food like salad as the lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, olives, orange and apple juices were largely untouched. So much for climbers having a healthy diet, full breakfast rules.

 climbingpixie 15 Dec 2008

I remembered that. The Cambozola was the blue brie stuff, very delicate and nice, and the Dolcelatte was the one in a big block and a fair bit stronger. Didn't have much of the Stilton but was impressed at the Yorkshire Blue, very creamy. Mmmm cheese...

 sutty 15 Dec 2008
In reply to Bingly Bong:

I just sent this email to them, to thank them for the use of the place.

Just a note to say thank you for the use of the centre, everyone enjoyed
themselves and said what a nice place it was. Clean and warm with
excellent facilities, and your lending us the stove when the power went
down showed you were not just people who book a place and then forget it.

There were 26 people staying by my calculations, I enclose a list of the
people there, unfortunately Rob Naylor never made it due to work pressures.

I hope my calculation as to fees is correct, if not let me know and will
sort it out.

I hope everything was left clean and tidy, I did a quick check of most
things but forgot the oven, though I did see someone cleaning things in
the kitchen, and warned them the place had to be left ready for someone
else to be able to move in in the condition they found it. We did check
nothing was left in the fridges and freezer apart from the ice.

I tried to shut the heating off as we left but it did not shut down so
surmised that it was running to heat water. Hope we left no lights on, I
went round most of the place but may have missed one somewhere.

Thanks again for a good if eventful weekend, hope we can use you again.

It was good to meet a few of you briefly on Sunday. Unfortunately I arrived spectacularly late after sliding off a road backwards down a hill on sheet ice on the way there (tip - don't trust the sat-nav to take you a sensible way when it has been snowing). It took a while to get on the road again.

Still at least I arrived in time to get a climb in - thanks Wingnut for the belay!

Next time I'll try and make it for the weekend.

Very artsy! Unlike my own, which are very much fartsy

In reply to PontiusPirate:

Your very good at this. What happened to the frozen ice on top of cracked buttress?
 PontiusPirate 18 Dec 2008
In reply to waterbaby:

That didn't turn out too well - really needed a polariser - the ones I am very pleased with were @ Gordale & Janet's Foss on Saturday, but they're in RAW format and need work to get the best out of them... it'll probably take me about an hour to get them fixed and upload 'web-friendly' (down-scaled) versions.
All but one of the sequence of James Oswald on Central Climb will end up on Facebook rather than UKC or Flickr as he's very well camoflaged against the rock!

I'm just about getting good enough & well known enough to start to get worried about stuff being nicked off Flickr and/or UKC... this will never be a full-time job, but I'm hoping to at least break-even with the kit I've bought... I've got a backlog of 2 to 3 hundred 35mm film shots to scan and tweak for Flickr, FB & UKC as appropriate...

In reply to PontiusPirate:

oh, in case anyone is interested I've got some more 'arty' ones up from the w/e (and a couple of weeks ago @ Caley - they aren't climbing shots - the lighting was very flat when we were bouldering so nothing really stood out)

In reply to Franklin the pedantic cat:

Mrs Y has now finished the cloak (several of you saw it under production during the meet)

It looks very good on her.

She says that the next item of production is my "posh" (for which read "not to be used UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES for any activities that may even remotely resemble making bread") tunic, which will be (hopefully) complete for February.
