Following on from the Merlin threads. Should a new route name be an accurate feature description or can it be tongue in cheek and creative?

Slab Route 2 ?

... or inspiring?

How about beguiling?

I reckon we need a gatekeeper for those with route naming rights.

I give you Roof Route (VS 4c) ... it is not a roof!

Puns that reference the feature are good. I think Careless Torque is an absolute genius name.

It's about the same pitch as one though. Isn't that the reason behind the name?

It’s a bit much if you get to rename a route every time a hold falls off😀

I didn't get it either until the name of the HVS to the right twigged me.

Could rename Merlin to The Changeling?

Braille Trail, too, is wonderful.

Been there, done that 😁. Obvious once you realise of course, it's because we so approach it as climbers and immediately fall down the "roof = overhanging" trap.

I've named a couple routes after my chickens who have sadly moved on to the great chicken coop in the sky
