This. Works perfectly, I've used it for remote working (University Lecturer) when I've retreated to far flung places for writing/marking breaks. No issues with uploading/downloading large files (images, data, GIS stuff) up to few GB, and absolutely fine for regular work-based internet use. No need to by some specific mobile broadband-type device and pay £20 a month, just upgrade your phone contract. (FYI I pay £16/month SIM only for unlimited everything, overseas use inc. some non-EU including tethering, on a 24-month plan).
EDIT: Macbook/iPhone and the connection between the two is rock solid.
