In reply to JonRoger:

Do they have icebergs in Oman?

No.

In reply to Dave: I didn't actually realise it was you! I actually moderated the pic and almost sent it up to the UKC uber-moderators on the basis of "what sort of prat puts up a picture without any info on it?!" but then thought I have to work on my tolerance for prats so let it slide...

And then secondly are you sure you've shown it to me? I can guess now where it is - but I don't know for sure.

And is your new profile pic taken amongst some other esoteric mountains? You could do another comp on that one!

Was going to go to Valkeala today looking for ice but the warmer front moved in and we decided not to risk it. Got very bored at home instead failing to thesis write.

It's funny you should mention that. I was watchin' a documentary about Labrador yesterday and they have some prety awesome rock and mountains. I expect the Canadians have got it explored but still looks good.

IOW, as big as Ben Nevis from sea level? (That's *huge*!)

In reply to Dave: Can we have the answer now please!

In reply to Al Evans: I know the highest climbed sea cliff is supposedly Gaz Parry's ascent on the Devils Thumbnail at 2005mts
In reply to Al Evans:

I reckon that smr has it - see http://www.panoramio.com/photo/15312908

Yep, that's it all right, just taken from a slightly different angle and in different light.

In reply to smr:

You, Sir, are absolutely correct. How do you know it and have you seen it close up ?

I got all excited several years about organising a trip there when I read about it after climbing elsewhere in NE Greenland. I did a little research on it. It is relatively simple to get there, with money, and the area has much better weather than Southern Greenland.

If anybody is keen to go I have a little more information, and maybe would be keen still to go myself.

I forgot to say that it is limestone.

In reply to Dave:
Looks pretty loose. And the fact it is Limestone pretty much confirms this.
In reply to MattDTC:

Don't know about looking loose but limestone and high freeze-thaw rates would lead me to suspect that we aren't going to get Verdon quality here

In reply to a lakeland climber:
Yeah, those were the lines I was thinking along - several thousand years of freeze-thaw. Sounds like there's an adventure to be had!

In reply to a lakeland climber:

Looks like some rather loose bands in that. Trouble is, on that scale, the loose bands may be as big as Gimmer!

In reply to Dave:

Dave - sorry, I should confess. I jumped in, having seen the photo first, without realising it was you. By the way, I wasn't absolutely correct, it's actually at the Western end of the island, not East.

Good grief, you, that's a surprise.
