Rockfax guidebooks, based in Sheffield and run by Alan James, have just unveiled the next step in UK guidebook developments with the publication of their Pokketz climbing guidebooks.

These small guidebooks are A6 in size, half the size of a normal Rockfax guidebook, and are 7mm thin with 128 pages ...and are ten times lighter than the Lancashire Brick, the world heavyweight champion of guidebooks that tips the scales at 1.3kg.

About time too! A guide's no good if you can't get it your arse pocket.

Did I read that right? They're only going to have routes from mod to HVS?

These two have mostly routes up to HVS although there are a few E1s and E2s in there as well.

Others in the series will not necessarily follow this grade pattern. For example, the Pembroke guide.

Still early stages. We have done much of the ground work but still need to get a lot of photographs. Ideally I would like to publish it next summer, but that may depend on how lucky we are with the weather conditions.
