What was probably the 1st ascent of the Ginat route

Great effort on the route. Classic old skool camera tilting on the photo...

What are the guys at the back on?!
Robert Durran - 30/Jan/13
The guys at the back are on the Ginat, taken from the side. This is the second or third pitch up from the top of the icefield. It was actually the first ascent of the Ginat, but we didn,t realise it at the time. Checking subsequently, when a description had been published, we climbed the exact line of the Ginat, finishing on the breche. We soloed the icefield and did the route in a day.
The first ascent was claimed a year later by the French & named after Ginat who died on the descent.
The photo was taken by Rick Accamoza & the Climber in the foreground is Jack Roberts [recently deceased] Rick & Jack went on to make the 1st ascent of the Dru couloir direct a couple of weeks later

A bit of clarification. This is a photo taken with my camera by Jack Roberts. I have never tilted a shot...as much as that! That is me in the foreground and Phil and Paul in the background. Also I did the Dru Couloir Direct with Tobin Sorenson, not Jack. Cheers, Rick Accomazzo

Great bit of history here! And think I recognise the pitch above in the foreground as what is often referred to as the ice crux on the Ginat, which as you say is a few pitches above the top of the ice field, on the headwall.

A fascinating bit of history and a great effort. Have a 5 to make up for the miserable remark about tilting

Sorry, found I couldn't vote on this excellent photo so have added the 5 to yourbCapucin one which in any case is better than a 3. Too many armchair photographers who don't know what it's like trying to take a photo when seriously climbing
