more importantly, she's using a Waistlength, (I had one) and the knot she is using could/might be a Tarbuck knot - or possibly a badly dressed fig 8, or something.....It is a great shot.

What's more the "waistlength" was originally made of hemp . The theory being that a nylon one would melt against a nylon (hawser laid) rope if tied in directly . Carabiners quickly replaced direct connect

Hello John - Great photo of Barbara at the top of one of my favourite climbs. In those days I used two hemp waistlines, two Stubai screwgate carabiners and a bowline knot with two full hitches. So did Ron when I climbed with him.
