Looks like me in the background. Painful??

I hope the landing was soft!
Dave Musgrove - 26/Oct/16
It could well be you in the background, there were loads of people there! And unfortunately yes it was painful and the landing was most definitely not soft!

If there's any silver lining to be had from this it's to be UKC photo of the week. 5* for effort mate :)
StevieLee - 26/Oct/16
Ouch, take care!
James Rushforth - 26/Oct/16
Eeeeeek! What the flipping flip?! Hope you and your ankles are OK.
ChrisBrooke - 26/Oct/16
So how did that happen?
jon - 26/Oct/16
Love the look on that belayers face! Great picture.
DerwentDiluted - 26/Oct/16
Amazing, horrifying photo. Hope he was OK.

I have a feeling that 'the Sentinel' was soon replaced with 'the fentanyl'.
DerwentDiluted - 27/Oct/16
So, my ankles are fine. My back and hip not so much. But I'll be back climbing next year. So DerwentDiluted were you on of the guys that attended?
jules1990 - 27/Oct/16
Jules, love your "lead dnf" logbook ebtry. indeed......! Hope you're ok. Great photo. The cam in your hand must tell a story.
Robert Durran - 27/Oct/16
If you look closely, he's got the nut that was supposed to stop him decking out in his other hand.

Excellent photo work. Hope it's a speedy recovery!
simon32000 - 27/Oct/16
Ouch! Saw some MRT commotion from Higgar and wondered if something had happened on The Sentinel - wishing you a speedy recovery!
Duncan Campbell - 27/Oct/16
No I wasn't there, but I heard that you'd put some effort into mashing yourself up. Best wishes for your recovery and I hope you are out and about sooner rather than later.

I backed off the Sentinel because the wires looked so crap and I do like to have at least one decent piece when on something at limit, which it was.
Were you trying to hang on the wire and it popped?

It seems that I tried to grab it on the way down. I was trying to put the cam in when I realised that I was going g to come off...

Amazing timing! Glad you're ok -ish.

I think we might have the design for Edale MRT's new Christmas Card.
Heal fast.

Now if only that cam had been well placed then this photo would be very average!
Sean Kelly - 01/Nov/16
Actually I was placing the cam when I fell off. But thanks for your insight!

Think that is me belaying - my friend Julia was one of the many in attendance. Belayed my mate George on this earlier in the day - he spent ages placing a decentish wire in the crack and then took a whipper onto it - fine lines!
robsway - 01/Nov/16
Rob was she the lady that helped out after? If so please thank her from me! She's the only person (that I know of) that I haven't been able to thank.
jules1990 - 01/Nov/16
Yes that would have been Julia I think. I'll pass on your thanks - she'll be glad to know you're on the mend, as am I - it wasn't looking great at this point. We were relieved to hear you say you were too hot with all the coats placed on top of you!
robsway - 02/Nov/16
This is just brilliant. Couldn't have staged it better. Gear in hand... the 'there's the ground' nonplussed look on your face... the belayer with a pre-shock 'oh sh*t' expression... and the two in the background unaware of the drama that is about to ensue. Love it... especially in b+w for effect.
Derry - 02/Nov/16
Wishing you a swift recovery sir. Amazing photo though.

Brings back memories, 2 years since my accident at Stanage...it's a great shot and one which you will have to show your children I guess !

Great photo!
I seem to remember the gear being really strenuous to place on this one and I ended up going up and down loads of times before getting in anything I was happy with.
Good luck with your recovery, nice to have a good photo to remember your brush with death by (although I guess the event itself was probably pretty memorable)!
