> Ken Wilson tells UKClimbing.com nothing about the forthcoming Classic Rock apart from it's not out for Christmas.

 Doug 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com: Fairly sure Hard Rock was the first in the series, Classic Rock was a few years later, vaguely remember hearing the alternative title was 'Soft Rock'
OP Michael Ryan 14 Dec 2006
In reply to squeek:

That will come in the New Year 'squeek' when I visit Wilson Mansions.

In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com: £150 for classic Rock? You sure?
 Al Evans 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Doug: Doug is absolutely right, Hard Rock was first in the series.

Beat me to it -- sloped off for a coffee break so missed the post!
In reply to Chris Fryer: I think that is a mistake - Mick means Extreme Rock for £150.
 Alan Stark 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Chris Fryer:

It would have to be a first edition in pristine condition - but even so its no Hard Rock or Extreme Rock.

Mine's well leafed through, and the dust jackets a bit tatty, so no chance of £150 squids for that one.

I think I'll invest in one of the new ones just for the extra colour piccies and artwork which sound excellent.
 Alan Stark 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com:

The piccie of the dust cover is from the second edition not the first edition.
Clauso 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com:

That's insane. I bought a copy only recently for about £20.
In reply to Alan Stark: Ah, mine was printed in 1997 - is that the 2nd edition then?
OP Michael Ryan 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Nick Smith - UKC:

First Edition of Classic Rock published 1978 (Granada)

Reprinted 1979
Reprinted 1981
Reprinted 1985

Second Edition of Classic Rock published 1989 with same dust jacket (Diadem)
 Mike C 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com:

Just because someone is selling it for that does not mean that anyone is buying it at that price. On ebay they seem to be going for around the £20 mark.
Mine's got a large wine stain across the pages for Squareface (yes - wine, OK?) so probably not worth diddly-squat.
 Chris Fryer 14 Dec 2006
In reply to Mike C: I want £10000 for mine. I may be bitterly disappointed though.

That has to be the ultimate non report !

There was a thread the other day about Classic Rock asking when it was out.

http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=216695

I saw this, I contacted Ken and got the reply in the news report...straight from the source.

There are many thousands of climbers who visit this site not all are as well informed as you.

In the New Year we are arranging a Classic Rock feature and I'll be visiting Ken for a little chat.

Cheers,

Mick

Hope it goes better than your previous 'little chat' with Ken.

That went very well.

In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com: I'm thinking of the one when he phoned you up - I forget which magazine the article was in.

In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com:

Unusually for me, I wasn't having a dig - I went to the link eagerly looking for some grade change tit bits, some tirade on the ticklist mentality etc. and all I found was "I'll talk to you next year" !

If you wait long enough you may get it, then you can use it to buy yourself a pint.
IbexJim 15 Dec 2006
In reply to Doug:
correct in both respects.
IbexJim 15 Dec 2006
In reply to Mick Ryan - UKClimbing.com:
Give him my regards, haven't seen him in ages - suppose he'll dump my colour photo from the original, probably already has. (sigh).
