Mark did it ground-up. Not that this detracts from his ascent at all, as it was one of the most impressive and inspiring I can think of, and was immortalised through Mike Cheque’s similarly superb Stonnis film.

Having had a few sessions on Gaia I really can’t imagine getting committed on that top section without knowing exactly what I’m going to do next. It’s so subtle, so complex, and so easy to become unbalanced - plus no one in their right mind wants to take THAT fall 😱
