Laura Rogora Ticks 9a on 3rd Attempt

Only a day after winning the World Cup in Briançon, Laura Rogora climbed a 9a on her third go of the day. The 19-year-old Italian climber ticked La Prophétie des grenouilles at Fournel, near Briançon.

Despite the Coronvirus pandemic, Rogora has improved dramatically in terms of grades this year. In June, she climbed her first 9a+ with an ascent of Adam Ondra's Pure Dreaming Plus near Arco and in July she climbed Ali Hulk Sit Start Extension Total in Rodellar - her first 9b.

On Saturday, Rogora was showing her potential in the competition world, where she became the first Italian woman since 1989 to win a gold medal. The Olympic hopeful faced fierce competition from the likes of Janja Garnbret, Fanny Gibert and Jessica Pilz and in the end, the results were so tight that it was decided on countback from the semi-finals.

Rogora is the most accomplished female sport climber in the world, having now climbed fourteen routes graded 8c+/9a or harder.
