19-year-old Italian climber Laura Rogora has ticked The Bow (9a+) at Padaro, Arco. It was the second ascent of the Stefano Ghisolfi route and her third route of 9a+ or harder.
8a.nu report that the route took Rogora 17 attempts over 6 days. The young Olympic hopeful moved from Rome to Arco earlier in the year to have better access to training facilities and rock climbing and she has taken full advantage of the location. In May, she climbed her first 9a+ with the second ascent of Adam Ondra's Pure Dreaming Plus at Massone, near Arco.
In July, Rogora became the second woman to climb 9b after Angela Eiter, with a redpoint of Ali Hulk Sit Start Extension Total in Rodellar, Spain. She has made leaps and bounds this year and not just in sport climbing. In July, she won the Briançon World Cup and a day later ticked a 9a on her third attempt.
In the 2019 World Youth Championships, Rogora won gold in Boulder, Lead and Combined. The same year also marked her qualification for the Olympic Games, now taking place in July/August 2021.
