Although my UKC moniker is stringarms my mum decided to call me Phil (Targett.) I used to have nice feet but 40 plus years of climbing has lead me to the point that I won’t even look at them anymore. The ends of my fingers resemble spatulas and my eyesight is so bad that I sometimes chalk small footholds so that I can still see them. I also have an odd habit of crimping holds with my thumbs first which bemuses everybody else. I often think that having ten thumbs instead of fingers would be great!

Best Climbing Experience
Just being out bouldering generally fits the bill these days. My main focus is in developing new areas or finding new problems in existing areas for others to enjoy. I like the idea of contributing to the collective consciousness of climbing. Whether that’s been through routes or Boulder problems, giving somebody an experience that is hopefully a positive one I think benefits us all.
