Which "Now that's what I call music" album were you first aware of? The earliest one I remember (and indeed only one I've ever purchased!) was Now 37. Just curious, as saw one in a supermarket the other day and they seem to be up to a very high number now!

In reply to Flicka@work:

Number one...<sigh>

I have no.3 and a few others, but didn't collect many of them...

number 1 and have never bought one.

In reply to Flicka@work:

Are they in three figures yet? I had the first one on tape when it came out, no idea why, it just seemed a good idea at the time like all those Ronco compilation albums. Must have been sometime in the eighties.

I have number 1 on vinyl. Lovely.

In reply to Removed User: I have 3 on double tape....swop yer.
 TN 27 Jan 2009
In reply to Flicka@work:

I got the one with Always the Sun by The Stranglers and For America (Red Box?) on it for a birthday or christmas present.
It was awful.
 skeev 27 Jan 2009
In reply to Flicka@work: Got the first 3 on vinyl. Think the first one covered a whole year, not just a few months, which meant they had a wider range of cr*p to choose from!

something akin to Stars on 45

It was still crap.

18. Still got it, on double tape.
Cerulean 27 Jan 2009
In reply to Flicka@work:

I have them all on tape up until about Now 10, apart from Now 7 which is on vinyl. Marillion and Kayleigh was a classic off that one I seem to remember.
Bingly Bong 27 Jan 2009
In reply to TN: Defo, the Hits ones were shite... :oS

Not that they had more or less the same music on them or anything... ;oS
 Blue Straggler 27 Jan 2009
In reply to Flicka@work:

First one. Never touched one.

They only started them in the USA a couple of years ago, I got confused seeing international ads for "Now That's What I Call Music! Vol 2" etc

This thread's inspiring a frighteningly fast rate of, er, hits.

What a track listing!

In reply to Flicka@work: I had the first 'Hits' album on tape (which my kid sister rather annoyingly unspooled one day) and the first and only 'Now' I bought was 6....those were the days!

Just dug out the one we have, no 18. Double cassette of music my wife liked mostly. Certainly last century anyway.

Lots of other compilations, ABBA gold etc.

I'm assuming she opened it *after* she'd said 'I do'...

 Chris F 27 Jan 2009
In reply to muppetfilter: I had 1 and 2 on double cassette. Didn't bother after that. There must be a saddo out there somewhere with the entire collection.

I think mine was Now 37...the one with the Notting Hill song on; You say it best (when you say nothing at all).

There was an article just the other day about people who collect them. Must have been on the BBC, but I can't be bothered to go looking.

I've never bought or owned one.
 Little Brew 27 Jan 2009
In reply to Chris F: apparently lots according to Wiki! as they were so popular, the earlier ones are supposed to be easy to find! cant say that is high on my collection list! but maybe to some! sure iTunes will release the older ones soon.

I 'borrowed' Now 21 off a friend in my 2nd year at secondary school - it had Wet Wet Wet, Shakespeare's Sister and Right Said Fred on it. I've still got it somewhere...

I still own Now 2 and Now 4 on vinyl, and my little brother had Now 1 and 3. Was tempted to buy Now 1 when I saw it in Asda at the weekend for nostalgia value, but changed my mind when I realised most of the songs on it were actually crap.

Can't imagine you with a mullet, but then I used to have one too. I think we've matured well!

Doesn't quite hold the same credibility as having the entire collection of original 2 Tone recored releases or the entire Postcard or Factory records collections does it.

In reply to Stuart S and derbyshire ben:

You've seen photos of my mullet (and made t shirts with them!) but I have never seen yours?
 Nee 28 Jan 2009
In reply to Flicka@work:

Hmm, feeling old now. The first one I bought was the original "Now that's what I call music". Dont remember if it was on LP or double casset though.

it fitted in with the rest of my 'Hits' collection - and my top of the pops album.

In reply to Flicka@work: First one owned was now 12 on vinyl still own it but not a record player. The number 12 at the bottom of a swimming pool for those old enough to remeber 1988 track listed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_That%27s_What_I_Call_Music_12_(U.K._series... A change for us all to remenis how rubbish late 80's music really was.
