The Ticklist

Overview

A weekly summary of noteworthy ascents from around the globe. It's been an unusual summer for rock climbing with countries in different stages of lockdown.

#53 A Big Week for Bouldering and Sport

In this week's Ticklist, there are ascents from Japan, Europe and the US for some of the world's top boulderers and sport climbers...

Font 8C+ First Ascent for Ryuichi Murai

Ryuichi Murai has made the first ascent of his Launch Pad Project in Mizugaki, Japan, naming it Floatin' and graded it Font 8C+. This was the 3rd 8C+ that the Japanese climber has established. The granite problem features a series of footless moves on small crimps and pockets.

Watch Murai on an unsuccessful attempt below:

Big day in Siurana for Jakob Schubert

Austrian climber Jakob Schubert had a 'normal day at the office' in Siurana, Spain, when he climbed Will Bosi's King Capella and La Capella.

His ascent of King Capella was the third after Alex Megos' recent repeat. It took Schubert four days of effort to tick the route, roughly half the time that Bosi and Megos took.

He has suggested downgrades for both King Capella and La Capella 9b and 9a+ respectively.

Trieste (Font 8B+) for Brooke Raboutou

Brooke Raboutou has climbed her third Font 8B+ with an ascent of Paul Robinson's Trieste in Red Rocks, Nevada. Writing on her Instagram, she said:

'Damn, it feels good to stand on top of a boulder that pushed my physical and mental limits a year ago. Coming back, I felt much stronger and was able to let go of expectations and lighten the pressure I put on myself the previous trip. The process of pushing myself and growing from it is one I will forever admire and continue to chase. Onto the next project!'

Font 8B for Alex Johnson

American climber Alex Johnson has climbed her second 8B with an ascent of Vantablack in Red Rocks, Nevada. The problem took her just two sessions, in stark contrast to her previous 8B, The Swarm, which took her roughly ten years.
