Jack Geldard - UKC Chief Editor

jackgeldard.com

I'm the Chief Editor of UKClimbing responsible for most of the News and Articles on the site. I am also involved in liaising with advertisers, organising and writing gear reviews, going to trade-shows, some forum moderation and database updating and general day to day running of the site.

I also write and occasionally edit Rockfax guidebooks.

I like all types of climbing, and enjoy trying out new things and new challenges. I also enjoy the places climbing takes me and I think that the people you can meet through climbing are what makes it so special.

I've got a soft spot for sea cliffs.

Having mainly concentrated on UK trad climbing for the last few years, I feel it's time to move on to pastures new, and I'm concentrating on a mixture of alpine climbing and sport climbing.

Best Climbing Experience
Overall some of my favourite experiences are: Onsighting Riviere Pourpre with Dave and Juha, climbing Western Gully in perfect conditions again with Juha, climbing in the Alps with Aide, too many teenage gritstone epics to mention, climbing Magic Line in Bregalia with Aide many years ago, finally ticking Out of Africa in Madagascar with Fat Boy, a Scottish road trip with Ed, Climbing the North Face of the Eiger in Winter with Rob, a week of perfect sport climbing with Jude... and many others.

Interests Outside Climbing
Beer (German kellerbier ideally, or bottled Landlord will do, and I'll have it slightly chilled please), Gin and Tonic (a tall glass, heavy on the lime, Bombay Sapphire preferred), Campari (Spritz please, with a slice of orange and lots of ice), Running (occasionally, but not usually straight after Campari), weights (even more occasionally), reading (books, newspapers, etc), other stuff.

About My Photography
I like taking panoramic photos of mountains and cliffs. My favourite photos are those showing lines and atmosphere of routes, or the emotion of a climber.
