I am gearing up for my SPA assessment. I feel that I've got the necessary skills/ experience but pretty much of the climbing I've logged is in the Peak on gritstone.

To build my experience (and meet the criteria for assessment) I am planning a couple of trips in the coming months.

Looking for recommendations for crags/ areas (not in the Peak) where i can get as many routes as possible (vdiff-vs range) into a few days to bulk up my DLOG.

Also looking for any partners that are free on Sunday & Mondays.

Cheers

Karl

Little Tryfan has some nice routes as does Holyhead Mountain and Tremadog. You could also try some Lancashire grit too. Lots of other venues. See what others suggest also.

Haytor
[crag(224,"Hound Tor")
Winspit
Subluminal and Lighthouse Cliff
Saddle Head
Baggy Point
Porthclais Area
Vicarage Cliff
Craig Y Tonnau
Carreg Wastad
for a good mix of granite, limestone, sandstone, culm and volcanics in England and Wales

In North Wales I would definitely be looking for personal climbing at some / all of:

Craig Caseg Fraith Isaf
Craig Y Tonnau
Craig Pant Ifan (Tremadog) (Tremadog upper tier)
Clogwyn Cyrau (Little buttress)
Trevor Quarry (Railway buttress)
Tryfan Fach
Holyhead Mountain
Creigiau Llynnau Mymbyr
Barmouth Slabs
and maybe get on some slate sport routes +/- equinox at Bus Stop Quarry

and if you're taking assessment in the area maybe also have a look at these for toprope/ab setup practice:
Lion Rocks
Conwy Mountain
Craig yr Undeb (Union Rock)
Pont y Gromlech Slabs

I'm free most daytimes, especially weekdays. Feel free to get in touch.

In reply to Ron Rees Davies:

Doesn't practice at the venue qualify as cheating

In reply to timjones:

Just thorough preparation
