The original Alpkit Phud took the bouldering scene by storm over 6 years ago with it's balance of price and quality. Now having moved all our mat production in house, the hugely popular Phud has had a redesign to fit into our new UK made range. When developing the new Phud our focus was on taking the mat back to what it was originally conceived as - a no frills, low cost, entry-level pad for folks just getting into bouldering.

But it certainly doesn't mean cheap, with ith its high quality foam and durable 600D PU coated polyester cover. With its simple shoulder strap, Taco construction and Chamfered corners, the Phud is light, compact and quick to deploy. This also makes it a great choice as a secondary pad for the more experienced and regular boulderer.

The foam in the Phud has not been compromised for price and is the same excellent foam as you will find in all our pads. Based on some in-depth research by Pete, listening to what our customers have to say, and reinforced by our own climbing teams feedback we have changed the proportions and densities of the foam of our pads since our original Phud and Woomf. They now give a sweeter, softer feeling landing surface that is more capable of handling landings from differing heights. The close density match of the layers also combines to increase the long term durability of the foam and reduces the fade noticed after heavy long term use. The foam we purchase is from the same suppliers as we have always done and it is as good as it gets. We have never used cheap packaging foam.
