Hanwag launches the new Ferrata II GTX with innovative TubeTec Rock sole technology. Gear News

This spring Hanwag introduces its new Ferrata II GTX, a technical, new rock boot that combines unmatched levels of comfort paired with Hanwag's signature precision and stability. A complete re-work of the bestselling Ferrata Combi GTX, the new Ferrata II GTX is packed full of innovative features and up to 10% lighter than its predecessor.

The highlight of the Ferrata II GTX is its advanced TubeTec Rock sole which is responsible for the boot's new levels of comfort and reduced weight. Offering significantly more underfoot cushioning on hard terrain than traditional climbing boots have previously been able to, the TubeTec Rock sole means the boot is comfortable for the walk in and walk out, yet still offers precise edging for climbing.

Hanwag's TubeTec technology uses an extremely cushioning polyurethane (PU) midsole material and protects it for rugged mountain use with an outer "tube" made of TPU. The protective TPU "tube" makes it possible for Hanwag to use the comfortable, shock absorbing polyurethane in the midsole, delivering a level of cushioning and comfort not often found in mountain footwear. The outer tube's special design with TPU ribs and outer reinforcements ensure stability and traction, while also creating a climbing zone for maximum edging stability. On the Ferrata II GTX, the TubeTec Rock sole unit is completed with a proven Vibram Mont compound outsole that features Hanwag's weight-saving yet aggressive Integral Light tread for reliable grip and traction.

It's not all about the sole though; the boot's upper has had a full makeover too. Constructed from a combination of suede and abrasion resistant microfibre, the Ferrata II GTX's design means it is outstandingly durable in tough, rocky terrain. The upper's microfibre material is made up of a combination of polyamide and polyurethane yarns which make it an extremely stable fabric. This is paired with a more flexible, woven polyamide in the boot's 'flex zones' which ensure the Ferrata II GTX provides the ultimate combination of comfort and protection.

Minimal stitching on the exterior of the boot minimises the risk of abrasion and the super stable upper also has a 360o ankle cuff that offers excellent support yet also allows the right amount of flexibility around the ankle for precise placement on the rock. Click clamp eyelets offer two zone lacing for a precise yet comfortable fit and the boots are also compatible with semi-automatic crampons.
