With the changing of the season comes the promise of winter adventures, from ice climbing in Scotland to technical treks across frozen landscapes. Make sure you put your best foot forward this winter with the latest collection of high-performance rock boots from Bavarian boot maker Hanwag. Backed by almost a century of boot-making expertise, every pair of Hanwag boots is manufactured in Europe using a cemented construction and premium components for long-lasting durability and a comfortable fit straight from the box.

Friction II GTX

Take on epic winter mountaineering routes with ease in the high-performance Friction II GTX boots. The Friction II are cobbled on Hanwag's precise yet comfortable, Alpine Wide last which offers a close fit yet retains room around the toe box to reduce the risk of cold feet. Fully compatible with automatic crampons thanks to the heel welt, the boots feature a full-length shank between the insole and outsole that offers additional stiffness.

Tailored for cold-weather conditions, the Friction II boots are fully insulated and feature a Gore-Tex lining to keep feet dry and comfortable. The Suede, Cordrua and Neoprene upper has been developed to keep the boots' weight low while the Vibram® Dolomite Plus sole boasts an aggressive tread that won't lose traction in icy conditions. Like all Hanwag footwear, the Friction II GTX can be resoled when needed, ensuring they will accompany you for many years.

Makra Combi GTX

Introduced in 2017, the Makra Combi GTX boots combine low weight with excellent stability making them an ideal partner for demanding routes over rough or rocky terrain this winter. The boots' technical design includes a lightweight suede and Cordura® upper paired with a durable, waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex lining to keep feet dry and comfortable on intense hikes. The Cordura and mesh sections benefit from reinforced seams and a raised rand around the base of the boot protect the upper from loose rocks and scree.

Also constructed on Hanwag's Alpine Wide last, the Makra Combi GTX offer a close, precise fit, yet have slightly more room around the foot for increased comfort and a reduced risk of pressure points. Compatible with semi-automatic crampons, the Makra Combi GTX are topped off with the addition of an innovative Vibram® Pepe sole which has a light yet aggressive honeycomb construction that offers excellent grip with reduced weight.

Makra Low GTX

Sharing many of the same features as the higher-cut Makra Combi GTX, the Makra Low GTX is a true approach shoe which delivers on both stability and comfort. The same, innovative Vibram® Pepe sole that is used on the boot version helps to keep the Makra Low GTX's weight low while a Gore-Tex lining keeps feet dry and comfortable. A soft cuff with weight-saving honeycomb construction provides security and comfort around the ankle while reinforcements around the toe protect the shoe from loose rocks and scree.
