Stride into autumn with new GORE-TEX waterproofs by Berghaus Gear News

Berghaus is helping the public to stride out in confidence this autumn with the launch of a new range of waterproof jackets. The Ridgemaster and Fellmaster jackets extend the company's collection of 2L GORE-TEX® apparel with men's and women's lines that are designed to pack a performance punch at an accessible price.

The Ridgemaster is a classic all season Berghaus waterproof. Made out of waterproof and breathable 2L GORE-TEX® with a tough face fabric, this robust jacket offers the reassurance of storm level protection and is designed for long days of walking in the British outdoors, whatever the weather. Features include a fully adjustable fixed hood, water resistant front zip, three zipped pockets (including a large internal map pocket), and adjustable cuffs and hem. The men's jacket weighs 587g (large) and the women's weighs 487g (size 12). At £195, the Ridgemaster delivers a lot of jacket for the price.

The Fellmaster offers a distinctive and modern take on four season outdoor apparel. Guaranteed waterproof protection is provided by the 2L GORE-TEX® fabric and features such as the adjustable grown-on hood, and cuff and hem adjustment also help keep the elements at bay, while essential items (and hands) can be kept safe and dry in three zipped pockets. The men's Fellmaster weighs 621g (large) and the women's weighs 522g (size 12).

The dropped mesh lining, soft face fabric and articulation in the arms add comfort and freedom of movement, and the striking design and colour options complete a thoroughly contemporary jacket at a very accessible price of £160. The companion piece – the Fellmaster 3-in-1 at £215 – comes with an integrated micro-fleece jacket for extra insulation during the colder months, which can be removed or worn on its own depending on the conditions.

The men's and women's Ridgemaster and Fellmaster jackets are part of the new autumn/winter 2017 range by Berghaus, available now from www.berghaus.com and selected specialist outdoor retailers.

what's a 'grown-on hood' ?
19 Sep, 2017
To ensure that the latest technological developments perform to the maximum, it is essential that modern products have additional marketing terms added to their traditional descriptions. Without these words, the "hood" will feel it is merely ordinary and just a lesser part of the jacket, and is therefore less likely to step up to the mark and perform in the harshest conditions. With the addition of the term "grown on", the hood will feel that it has been especially developed as an elite force in the battle against damp curly hair, boosting its confidence no end, and allowing it to excel.

A hood on a jacket that extends directly from the nape without having a separate collar. The alternative where a jacket has a hood attached to a collar is known in industry spiel as a drop hood.

You should stop being so sarcastic and show a little gratitude to this philanthropic body whose only concern "..is helping the public to stride out in confidence this autumn." What with Brexit, old leaking seams and inappropriately used softshells, the once proud people of Britain have been cowed into meekly watching the rain from coffee shops. That's no way to live life. Thanks Berghaus!
