ISPO Report 2014: Packs / Sleeping Bags / Camping

The final report from ISPO this year covers Packs, Sleeping Bags and General Camping / other items.

With some really great kit from the top brands, we're really excited to get many of these products in the hands of the UKC Gear Testers to see what they are really made of.

If you missed our earlier reports then check them out here:

Expedition Lite 40 Pack from Berghaus

The Exped Lite 40L looked to be a good all-round pack for climbers and mountaineers, featuring a simple and clean design using a robust material. Having been put through its paces by Berghaus Athlete Mick Fowler during his recent successful ascent of Shiva (see UKC News Report) there is no doubt that this pack is going to be a good performer.

Emergency Light from Black Diamond

This new small headlamp from Black Diamond isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, but is just what it says on the tin. A small, reliable headlamp that weighs next to nothing, and is perfect for stashing away in your bag for that moment when it has taken a little longer than you thought to do the descent! This beauty will be available in Autumn/Winter 2014, with full details yet to come.

If you're in the market for a bigger headtorch, why not check out the UKC Head Torch Review.

Jetforce from Black Diamond

Nathan Kuder introduces the revolutionary skiing air bag backpack from Black Diamond. Instead of using a gas cartridge, this Jetforce uses a fan, and is reusable, repackable, and looks set to take the airbag market by storm.

It will cost between €600 - €800 depending on the exact model you buy, and it weighs approximately the same as the standard cartridge systems already on the market - watch the video for more details.

Rope Bags and Backpacks from DMM

David Noddings takes us through the range of soft goods at DMM. Some high quality bags here from one of the top climbing brands of the UK. We have this range on test at UKClimbing, and we are putting them through their paces. Keep an eye out for a full review. These will be available from mid-April, prices vary from model to model.

Backpacks from Lowe Alpine

Clive Allen shows us some nifty rucksacks from Lowe Alpine. A strong brand name in the UK, it's great to see that Lowe Alpine have some really neat products this year.

Minimus Sleeping Bag from Montane

Chris Jakeman is at home in fornt of the camera here as he shows us the excellent looking Minimus sleeping bag from Montane. We have some of the excellent Prism gloves on test from Montane, and we have been continually impressed with their products at the last few outdoor shows - the Minimus looks no different.

Mutant 38 & 28 from Osprey

With an improved die cut foam / Eva back system, the well known rucksack the Osprey Mutant looks better than ever, and this year is an ISPO award winner. Well done Osprey.

Nao Headlamp from Petzl

Clive Allen shows us the reactive lighting Nao from Petzl. This headlamp has been updated and now features more lumens, and completely revamped internals giving better battery life and more brightness.

Neutrino Sleeping Bag from Rab

Dan Thompson proudly shows us another excellent sleeping bag from Rab. With hydrophobic down, a two way zip and all the features you would expect from a top end Rab product, the Neutrino looks superb. The price is yet to be confirmed.

Torpedo and Go pro Battery from Brunton

There are always loads of electronic gadgets at these shows, and we never really know where to start. However if there is one brand that stands out time and again it is Brunton. Their kit just looks and feels bombproof. Here the £40 Torpedo is a car charger that when plugged in stores energy itself, whilst charging up to two USB devices. When it is fully charged the Torpedo can be taken with you, and will charge a smart phone approximately twice. Not bad! Also from Brunton was this GoPro specific battery. Basically a well thought out beefy battery for a GoPro. Does what it is supposed to!

Eta Lite Stove and Winter Gas from Primus

The £120 Primus Eta Lite looks like a great stove, and we have one on review at UKC right now. The new version has decreased height for increased stability, locks on to the pan, can be used as a hanging stove and is '80%' efficient apparently. Sounds good to us. Primus have also launched a range of different gas cylinders, including a 'winter gas' which is designed to work better in cold temperatures. We'd love to put that to the test too... watch this space.
