Beal TIGER 10mm UNICORE Dry Cover Product News

© Beal

Beal TIGER 10mm UNICORE Dry Cover is an example of multipurpose: in climbing it's the introductory rope for those starting to use thin ropes.

Now benefiting from UNICORE technology, it becomes the perfect rope for all adventures.

UNICORE

An astonishing process, bonding the sheath and core without affecting the ropes suppleness. If the sheath is cut or torn, the core and sheath remain bonded together. With a standard rope, if the sheath is cut by abrasion over an edge, a frequent occurence in the mountains, it slides and gathers over some metres. It then becomes impossible to pass this zone, whether ascending or descending.

DRY COVER

A process whereby every individual sheath strand receives a chemical treatment before the rope is manufactured. The treatment is hydrophobic, increases abrasion resistance and is polymerised at high temperatures. The polymerisation process together with every strand being coated individually increases the life of the treatment.

The treatment makes the ropes more resistant against abrasion, repeated falls, heat, dust, moisture and vastly increases their durability.

A DRY COVER treated rope is:

  • more dust and moisture resistant.
  • more abrasion resistant.
  • designed to maintain its suppleness in belay devices over time.

We need your help.

UKClimbing is a vibrant web site with rich content and an amazing community. So far, all we've asked of you is that you visit and interact with the site but we are in uncertain times. We need to look at ways to keep the site moving forward whilst maintaining our key aim of allowing free access to everyone to our main content. The site will continue to be mainly funded by a subtle level of outdoor-only advertising but we now need extra support to ensure we can continue to provide the UKC that we all know and love.

Well they've got a long way to go, then! 10mm is thick by today's standards, isn't it? They'd be better off saying "starting to use ropes other than the extra-thick, inflexible ones commonly used for indoor bottom-roping".
