Kayland Cross Mountain GTX Product News

One of Kayland's most popular products, the Cross Mountain GTX is a lightweight and very versatile boot that's well suited to a wide range of activities, from lightweight hiking to low grade winter mountaineering.

Primarily designed for alpine climbing and scrambling, the Cross Mountain's low weight and high levels of comfort also enable it to be used for hiking and backpacking too. The boot is C2 crampon compatible and has enough support for easy grade winter climbs and general winter walking. Its precise fit and great lacing system also make it a great choice for scrambling and easy rock climbs - everything from Striding Edge to Tower Ridge is well within the Cross Mountain's remit.

Other features are similarly aimed at making the Cross Mountain as comfortable and versatile as possible. The Vibram Mulaz Evo sole unit has deep lugs for traction on grass, mud and snow yet also features a smooth area at the toe for increased climbing performance. The uppers are made using a mix of suede and a very durable lightweight synthetic. A full rubber rand provides excellent protection against abrasion.

The Cross Mountain also features Kayland's Ankle Lock Technology which secures the heel in place and reduces the chance of discomfort and blisters. The ankle area is flexible for freedom of movement when climbing and comfort when hiking. The soft, high tongue and efficient lacing system locks down support when needed though and a full Gore-Tex lining seals out moisture.

The Cross Mountain is available in both a men's and women's specific last. An RRP of £189.99 represents great value for money, especially for a boot that's made in Europe to a very high standard.

I’ve been using these for most of the summer and have been really impressed. They’re stiff, light, waterproof and so far seem to be lasting up well.

Plus they’re £50 cheaper than equivalent boots from other brands.

What’s not to like?

Just returning to Kayland after some happy years with Salewa boots, but Salewa's changed lasts aren't compatible with my feet. I've got my eyes on a pair of these.
